An inquisitive adventurer, Reggie Williams jumped at the chance to experience a new field of work in a different area of the country.
Keep reading to learn how Reggie charted his career path at Cox Communications.
Reggie Williams treasures the memories of moving from Atlanta to Las Vegas last year.
From the windows of a moving van, he and his wife watched with anticipation as they crossed state lines and time zones, heading toward their new home on the west coast. The landscape flattened and its colors faded in the space between Georgia and Nevada, with a new adventure on the horizon.
“I was able to see the US from a different scope, from a different field of view,” Reggie said of that trip. “The moving process itself was exciting and rejuvenating. It allowed me to rescale my goals and become an explorer again.”
Reggie added that’s Cox’s flexible work policies and people-first culture made the moving process a pleasant one.
“My supervisor was awesome in being flexible with the time she gave me to actually get to Las Vegas,” Reggie said. “It was no stress, no burdens. I got to meet my peers and leaders and felt comfortable as I settled in.”
Reggie wasn’t just settling into a new area of the country; he was also stepping into a new field of work. He had just accepted a job as a Business Security Consultant at Cox Communications. While he had experience in the broadband and cable industry, this was his first venture into the security field.
While Reggie had big career dreams and had always dreamed of living on the other side of the country, he wasn’t actively looking for a new job when he was recruited to Cox. Reggie worked with his recruiter, Reid Smallwood, to understand what the opportunity was all about.
“The thing that really intrigued me about Reid was that he cared more about my journey and what I was looking to accomplish out of life, instead of simply filling a position,” Reggie said. “That hit home with me and led to a great conversation.”
Reggie’s job entails helping businesses create security safeguards so they can focus on productivity and growth.
“It’s always a new scenario and I love it,” Reggie said. “This role actually fit my personal characteristics 100 percent. I love being strategic and customizing solutions.”
After about six months of living in Las Vegas, Reggie said that he’s glad he took the opportunity to jump into a new adventure.
“I’m in a different environment,” he said. “When you don’t know anybody, you have to put the work into making friends and building your clientele. It made me more open and outgoing and vulnerable.”
Ever a team player, Reggie gave a shout-out to his peers on the Cox Business Security Solutions team in Las Vegas.
“The culture of Cox is unmatched by any previous company I’ve been a part of,” Reggie said. “People are always ready to help you be successful and accomplish whatever you’re trying to accomplish.”
For Reggie – who’s always ready to dive into the next challenge – knowing he has room to grow is a great feeling.
“Our leaders are proactive in prepping you for your next position,” Reggie said. “My leaders are already getting me involved in projects involving the cloud, in marketing and more. They’re opening doors and putting an emphasis on supporting employees.”

How quickly can a quarter of a century go by?
For Miguel Becerra, it can happen in a flash. He’s been a Cox Communications employee for an impressive 25 years and said it doesn’t feel that long at all.
“Cox gives you so much opportunity to work your way around and up the company,” Miguel said, chatting with us from his work-from-home space in Orange County, CA. “It always feels like I’m doing something new and that I’m evolving.”
Miguel is currently an Outside Sales Manager with Cox Business, a Cox Communications company. He began his Cox career journey as a customer service representative with the company’s residential operations, before moving into a role at Cox’s retail stores, becoming a technical service advisor with Cox Business and then eventually moving into sales and leadership.
“It just shows you what kind of a company it is and how they help you find your path,” Miguel said. “I still plan to grow within the company.”
Miguel doesn’t just sell Cox’s leading-edge technology – his family uses it, too, and found it to be especially helpful during COVID-19.
“It was a godsend that we had the capability to do remote schooling,” said Miguel, a father of four. “Our internet connection was excellent and it was a life source for staying connected. My wife is a teacher and had a hybrid program, with some students in a classroom and some on Zoom; and my brother is a principal at an elementary school in the area. They both experienced Cox internet at its best.”
“We as a company were there for students and teachers and really shone,” Miguel added. “During COVID, we were positioned to not just help employees, but society. A lot of people benefited from our products and services during this difficult time.”
Miguel also noted that Cox’s family-first culture and work-life balance allows him to take plenty of time for himself and his family, both in times of crisis like COVID-19 and for fun activities, like an upcoming whitewater rafting trip.
“That’s one of the things I love about working here: I can put the work away and not stress about it,” Miguel said. “The culture here is very pro-employee. The company wants the best for its people – in terms of opportunity, diversity and success.”

If you chat with Wendy Fadala about her hobbies outside of work, it won’t take you long to realize she’s an adventurous person.
Her favorite hobbies include scuba diving and swimming with turtles. She joined her husband, a newly-licensed private pilot, in their 1970’s Cessna on his first “real” flight this year. And she loves to take her fat-tire e-bike off-roading on the dirt paths and hills near her home in Arizona.
Of course, one adventure Wendy was not prepared for was a pandemic that drove people inside and employees to remote working.
When she joined Cox Business in March, COVID-19 had turned the world upside down. Wendy, who found her way to Cox when a Cox Recruiter reached out to her directly via LinkedIn to tell her about a new opening, turned right along with it.
Shortly after starting with Cox Business, she was enrolled in Cox Business University (CBU) Program – a comprehensive internal training program designed to help Cox sales employees deepen their expertise. In fact, Wendy took part in one of the first CBU programs that was fully virtual.
“The training was to not only give us a foundation of knowledge on the services that Cox offers, but to improve our sales skills so that we can effectively show the benefits of our solutions aligned with the customers’ needs,” Wendy said.
The six-month program included in-depth training on sales tactics as well as Cox products, from voice and TV services to Cox’s Managed Cloud Solutions.
“I can say that I had a number of lightbulb moments,” Wendy said. “Even being in the industry for a number of years, I learned things that I should have been taught in prior roles.”
CBU has instilled greater confidence in Wendy in her role as the single Enterprise Account Manager in Tucson, where she works with some of the largest customers in her market in areas like healthcare, finance, utilities and social services. The training she received early on in her Cox career journey have emboldened her as she connects with customers, processes their requests, discusses their existing services and introducing them to new offerings.
An unexpected benefit of the CBU program was the relationships it generated.
“Our cohort group of 14 contained a wide range of Cox employees, such as inside reps, outside reps, people with no sales background and experienced salespeople moving from one Cox company to another,” Wendy said before adding that she and her cohort group continue to support each other over Microsoft Teams.
Whatever her next sales adventure at Cox may be, Wendy looks forward to being part of the company’s distinct culture and professional development opportunities.
“I absolutely love the Cox culture,” Wendy said. “I have been amazed since the beginning. The amount of time invested in training is incredible. From my small team to leadership, it feels like Cox cares about each and every employee.”

Over the past several years, I’ve been working towards my journey to become part of the Cox family. I was living in Lake Havasu, AZ with my wife and our 6 children, and was approached a few times by a Cox recruiter for a position in Phoenix, AZ, which is about 170 miles from Lake Havasu. At the time, I was happy with my current job, and wasn’t looking to move my family. However, I kept in touch with the recruiter over the next few years, and as my job situation changed, I knew I needed to relocate to find the career that met what I was looking for in terms of fit, position, and that all-elusive company “culture” that I could call home.
In 2019, I was unemployed for eight months, and did numerous phone interviews, applications, formal interviews, and group interviews trying to find the right job for me. The reason I ultimately decided to relocate to Peoria, AZ (3 hours from where we lived) was because of a conversation I had with one of the Directors of Sales from Cox Business. While in the process of interviewing for a job at Cox, my conversation with him about the culture at Cox piqued my interest and sold me on all that Cox had to offer!
So, I moved my family to Peoria, AZ in August of 2019 and started my job with Cox later that year. I had to uproot my family from a place that we called home for nearly two decades – where we went to church and were involved in community organizations. My daughter reminds me that the worst part was that she had to be moved between her sophomore and junior year in high school (oh the horror!). I was looking for a company that would empower me, provide career advancement, invest in their employees, and do what was right by the customer. That’s why I pressed in to get the role that I wanted and did not sit back and wait for it to come to me.
Having worked for large enterprises and companies in the past, I’ve always considered culture to be an aspirational goal that you work towards, but achieving it is another matter entirely. However, I can tell you that the “Cox Culture” is a real thing. I’ve seen it come to life in the way that the company has chosen to take care of their employees during a global pandemic; offered focus groups where we can share our stories, an emphasis on the health and wellness of the employees, and additional support options that take care of the whole family. If that was all Cox did, I’d still say they achieved a culture that I haven’t seen at any other company. However, if you add on their commitment to the customer experience, and communities in which we live, I’m amazed.
In my current role with Cox as a Sales Manager, my day typically starts around 7 a.m. I’m always looking for ways I can help my team accelerate their sales. My team has a “huddle” call at 8:30 a.m. every day where we talk about any sales they’ve made and information that is helpful for the whole team. Every day, I am on virtual meetings with customers and my account executives, calls with sales engineering to discuss network builds/ designs, and meetings with management to discuss strategy to help our sales team accelerate sales and opportunities. The last few hours of my day I’m reading feedback and preparing information to present that’ll help my team continue to be successful.
I would tell anyone looking for a career change or interested in getting to know Cox, that the “Cox Culture” is real. Cox cares about our customers and we care about our teams. If you are looking for a company that embodies the saying “A rising tide lifts all boats” then you belong here.
It took me nearly three years of my journey to work for Cox and I’m appreciative that I had the opportunity to go through it and end up where I ended.
Thank you for learning a bit more about me, and hopefully you’ll come onboard!

Hi, I’m Lauri, and I’m proud to share my Cox story.
As a single parent, I found myself constantly struggling between spending quality time with my son and balancing work. I heard about Cox Business from a recruiter who said I would enjoy great benefits and have a better quality of life – and that’s what piqued my interest to apply. The rest is history!
As a Senior Account Executive, my role is to hunt for large business and enterprise-sized customers, uncover their technology needs, and offer solutions. Once the prospect becomes a Cox Business customer, it’s my job to grow the relationship and provide ongoing consultation to support their needs. As Cox Business has grown over the years, it has given me more opportunity to offer customers the best in business services from our telephone, television, and Internet to our cloud services. I enjoy collaborating with sales support teams to build the best solutions possible for my customers.
I am based in New Orleans and my relationships with my customers have fueled my passion for the community. I wear many hats and play many roles both within Cox and in the community. For example, I sit in the New Orleans Chapter of Cox Charities, a fundraising and grant making organization established by the donations from Cox Communications employees. Each year members of our chapter review applications and select local community organizations to sponsor. We also share success stories from these charities in the local market.
I am also on the Louisiana Employee Advisory Board where I get to help enhance the Cox employee experience by choosing topics and ideas to champion in employee training or procedures. We host quarterly recognition for employees who have gone above and beyond based on nominations from their peers. Lastly, I volunteer with the Gala Board for the New Orleans Mission. The New Orleans Mission is a Christian Humanitarian Organization, dedicated to the rescue, recovery, and re-engagement of people facing homelessness, addiction, human trafficking, or abuse. The Annual Gala is the single largest fund-raising event for the N.O. Mission. In addition to the personal satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of others, my involvement in these organizations also gives me a voice at Cox Business, and the exposure necessary to move to the next level in my career.
That’s why I’m proud to work at Cox. It may sound very cliché to say, “work family”, but there’s no other way to describe my Cox Business family. We work together, play together, support one another, and give constructive criticism when needed. We celebrate personal and professional achievements – just like family! When you know that your leaders (from the CEO to your manager) care about your well-being, it resonates with customers – they can feel our enthusiasm about Cox Business.
Cox is a company where you can have a career. My advice to any job seeker looking for a role within Cox Business is to first know your career goals and be able to speak to them in an interview. Also, pursue the job search process with the confidence of knowing you’re applying to a company made up of leaders who genuinely care about you and are looking for talented individuals who will enhance the landscape of our business. Our leaders understand the value of people and work hard to ensure we are always the priority.

We interviewed Sales Engineer Michelle Lee, who describes her role as a solution engineer helping to solve problems, dissolve technical pains, and meet the needs of customers. If this sounds like an exciting gig for you, read more of her story below to find out what it takes to be a Sales Engineer at Cox.
Hi, I’m Michelle Lee and I began my career with Cox 10 years ago when my former company was going through a layoff. I was searching for jobs as a network administrator at the time and a recruiter at Cox reached out to me for a job with Cox Business on the Technical Support team. From there, I moved over to the Order Management side where I learned about post-sale processes and eventually moved to a similar role based in San Diego, where I am today.
I always knew I wanted to get back to my technical roots and when the opportunity presented itself for the Sales Engineer role, I jumped at the opportunity.
My mornings always start with my coffee, followed by celery juice and cruising through my emails and calendar. Generally, I check my calendar the night before so I have an idea of what my day will look like. From there, it can be anything from responding to emails, completing tasks, creating diagrams, calling customers, and booking customer appointments. I also help my peers and other coworkers with assistance in the pre-sale and post-sale process.
The culture at Cox is what keeps me here. I have little experience working for other companies, but from the places I have worked, Cox isn’t just a business, we are a family too. People care for each other, especially with our ERG’s (employee resource groups) and Diversity and Inclusion council. I believe I have been heavily supported by peers, leaders, and the company in general. Being a part of the ERG’s and working with different people in other groups, gives me opportunities to network, meet, and learn what others do.
In the Women’s ERG, we have an annual mentorship circle where members are randomly selected for a group and assigned a leader. It’s also a great opportunity to receive guidance, support, and additional resources. We have amazing leaders, peers, and mentors that help us and push us to be our best.
If I could advise any job seeker, it would be to know your net worth and let it shine. Always highlight your strengths and remember to be vulnerable in your areas of opportunity. At Cox, we are encouraged to network and learn about open opportunities on our internal careers site.
In my career, I have learned that you will survive rejection. I have had that happen to me, when I was devastated to learn that I didn’t get a job that I really wanted. What I learned was sometimes what you think is RIGHT for you, probably wasn’t the BEST for you. Because of that, another opportunity came along that not only was better, but turned out to be something I am passionate about and enjoy doing.
Outside of work you’ll find me near anything with water. My happy place is at the pool, on the lake, or by an ocean. I am also a yoga enthusiast and instead of fur babies, I have plant babies. When we’re not in the middle of a pandemic, I enjoy traveling and experiencing the art, food, and culture of the places where I visit.

We recently followed (virtually, that is) Terrence Richard for an inside look at a day-in-the-life of an Account Executive at Cox Business, part of the Cox family of businesses. Terrence’s job is to be immersed in the market trends and current events that impact small and mid-size businesses. And from what we can see, it’s a cool gig and after 11 years, he’s still making his mark at Cox.
Terrence, how do you get your day started?
First things first, when I wake up, I need my coffee. While drinking my coffee, I start to organize my day, and to be honest, each day is not the same – which is what I love. Each day is filled with lots of customer interaction, from working with new prospects to cultivating relationships with existing customers. I have also built a solid network of partners in my area that trust my ideas of how to leverage technology to positively impact their business.
That’s cool, so what’s your favorite part of your day?
As a trusted sales consultant, I spend part of my day preparing for appointments, which is super important to closing deals. My favorite part of the day is running sales calls and my wife sometimes gets jealous because she sees how happy I am to run meetings [laughter]. I tell her the magic happens on these sales calls. I get a return on investment to meet, listen, and learn about my clients’ business and provide ideas and solutions through Cox Business products to make their lives better.
What has led to your success at Cox?
I began my Cox career as a Direct Sales representative and while my time on that team was short-lived due to a merging market resulting in role elimination, I developed a resilience to adapt, grow new skills (in B2B marketing), and apply my expertise. That’s when I received a call from a Cox Business manager for an opportunity to return to Cox, and I accepted the role immediately as an Account Executive. I have aspirations to grow into a leadership position at Cox, and I’m proud to work for a company that has invested in my career with tuition reimbursement for my master’s degree and encouragement in my individual development goals for my career.
What else makes you great at what you do?
At a previous sales job, I worked in automotive sales and I had a customer who walked through the doors ready to purchase whichever vehicle they could qualify for – which is the dream of any sales agent. I was so excited to sell a car that day, that I missed an important step in the customer purchasing process that included important documentation. This resulted in the customer not being able to purchase a car that day and I was very disappointed. This lesson taught me a valuable lesson about having attention to detail. From that day forward I incorporated this habit into my day-to-day which has resulted in success, organization, and preparation for any situation.
Do you have any advice for job seekers looking for a position with Cox Business?
If you decide to join the company, you are a part of the growth engine for Cox Communications. There is excitement around the work that we are doing and how we engage with our customers, promote technology, and improve business operations for a company. Hard work pays off and is always rewarded.

Khalil Al-Amir, Cox Business Security Sales Manager, shares an inspiring story of courage and sacrifice plus the key Ingredients to his success.
By: Khalil Al-Amir
I was born in Syria, a beautiful country ripped apart by war. When I was just 5 years old, my parents, my two sisters, and I fled to Rhode Island. We already had some family arrive before us – my aunt and uncle and grandparents.
My parents left friends, family, jobs, our home – everything – to give my sisters and me a better life, a safe life. Can you imagine what courage that took? My parents never speak of the sacrifices they made for us. But my sisters and I know, and we will never forget. It helps drive me every day.
Beyond my courageous parents, I have been fortunate to have worked with great leaders at Cox. They encourage me, give me feedback, and like my father, push me to be and do my best.
Sales has always been my passion, and developing talent has become another one as I grow into this leadership role.
I’m a very competitive person, and every day, I’m inspired by the people around me. I think good salespeople must be like athletes, where the ultimate motivation is the desire to win and be the best.
As Security Sales Manager, half my time is spent in the office doing admin work and meetings, but the other half is out in the field. I love being in the field! My time in the field allows me to meet potential clients and support my team.
My secret sauce to success is to be good to your people, and they will be good for you. I have built mutual trust with my team that is needed in a sales environment.
Back in Syria, my parents were very respected; they were teachers, which are very honored positions. When I got older, I remember working alongside my father as a landscaper. He taught me that whatever job you do, you give it your best, and be proud of what you are doing.
That’s why I support my team where they need it most to make sure they have the autonomy to run their business.
My mother also inspired me, she gave me my biggest motivation – always be positive! I do not allow myself to have a bad day. I live by the motto “if you can, change it; if you can’t, change your attitude about it.”
I worked hard to achieve my goals, and my proudest accomplishment, on top of my successes that Cox offered me, is when I purchased a home.
I have only been working at Cox for seven years. But in that time, I’ve received several promotions including three invitations to the Winner’s Circle, an annual awards ceremony recognizing high-achieving sales professionals with a great vacation trip. In my third year, I relocated to Las Vegas to help set up the Centers of Excellence, and shortly after, I received another promotion, bringing me home to Rhode Island. I mention these accomplishments to make my point – you can achieve great things at Cox!
